Ebasenet meet Mr. BAKUC During Malaysia Asia Cup 2005

EBASENET is an acronym for Erix93, Whitebase and G_net, which are online alter-egos of 3 friends based in Malaysia who are into miniature modeling, mainly on Gundam plastic models released by Bandai, or “Gunpla” in short.

Forum Nickname : Erix93
Real Name : Eric Yap Soon Chong
Location : Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Year of Birth : 1971
Started Modelling : 1987
First Model Kit : 1/144 Re-GZ (Char's Counter Attack Series)
Favourite Models : 1/100 MG Kits & Diorama
Favourite Techniques : EPPT (Erix Pla-Plate Technique), Super detailing, Custom Colour Schemes

Erix93 is a modeler from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and has been involved in the hobby for many years. It all began for him when he was still in high school, back when there were no MG or HG kits yet. He started off with a 1/144 Re-GZ which he bought after saving up for a long time. Back then there were hardly any model kit shops around, and quality model kits were very difficult to come by. Specialized modeling goods and tools were practically unheard off.
Over the years, as his passion and skill for the hobby grew, Erix93 started joining local competitions held annually. He got a placing for the first time in 1998, where he won a consolation prize with his MG RX78 entry.
After a few more competitions, he met Whitebase in 2003 during the annual “Gundam Showdown” competition. They quickly became good friends and have been exchanging ideas and techniques ever since. There’s always been a high level of healthy competition between them which drove the two to improve gradually over the years. The next year, they met G_net during the annual competition, when this relatively unknown new challenger appeared out of nowhere and bagged the 3rd prize AS WELL AS the new challenger trophy!
Erix93 has been finishing in the top 3 positions every year since then, and even managed to win the Grand Prize for the “Bandai Action Kits Asia Cup 2005” held in Hong Kong, where his “Last Gate” entry was pit against submissions from other masters from Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan and China.
Erix93 has now been pushed up into the ‘Expert Category’ for the annual local competitions, where he will compete against other masters in the country with a minimal of 3 times placing top3 in the competitions. To date, he’s completed countless models from many different genres. Despite the pressures of work life, family commitments and recently, his deteriorating eyesight (getting old!), his passion for the hobby still burns strong, and will continue with this hobby for many years to come.

Forum Nickname : Whitebase
Real Name : Ng Jit Seng
Location : Selangor, Malaysia
Year of Birth : 1975
Started Modelling : 1997
First Model Kit : 1/144 Zaku Cannon (Original 1/144 MSV series)
Favourite Models : 1/144 Scale Gunpla
Favourite Techniques : Torso Mods, Extra Articulation, Detailing, Panel Line Scribing

Whitebase is from the state of Selangor, Malaysia and started collecting model kits since his early college days. He only started to build models seriously after college when he happened upon a copy of Hobby Japan Magazine. Intrigued by the amazing works in the magazine, he started dabbling in modifications for his kits. Having started the hobby around the same era as Erix93, Whitebase faced the same problems on the availability of modeling tools, and resorted to everyday household items to be incorporated into his kits. With a pair of finger nail clippers, a blade, some sand paper and super glue, he began his long journey and countless hours slaving on his kits.
He completed his first ever plastic kit in 1998, a Bandai 1/144 scale VF-11C Valkryie from the Macross 7 series and submitted it for a local competition. He rushed out his second model, Bandai’s 1/144 scale Jegan for this same competition and won a consolation prize for his effort. Though he won something with the kit, he had to forgo a lot of modifications planned for the kit to rush it out in time. He vowed never to rush out imperfect works for the sake of competitions ever again, but have always failed to keep that promise…
With university coming up, Whitebase took another 3 whole years before getting around to finishing his next kit, a 1/144 Wing Zero Gundam, which won first place for the 2001 “Gundam Showdown” competition for single kit category. Over the years, Whitebase’s has finished very few kits, but whenever he does, he makes it a point to submit it for the local competitions. It was in these same competitions where he met up with Erix93 and G_net, and the rest is as they say, history.
Due to the perfectionist (read “anal”) nature of Whitebase, he takes an extremely long time to complete his kits. Now with an additional member in the family, and growing commitments from work life, he is finding less and less time to pursue this hobby. He has opted for a simpler approach for his latest works with fewer modifications, in hopes of completing more kits. (Yeah right…)

Forum Nickname : G-Net
Real Name : Hor Kok Teng
Location : Selangor, Malaysia
Year of Birth : 1979
Started Modelling : 1993
First Model Kit : 1/144 Zaku (FG)
Favourite Models : All genre
Favourite Technique : GIPPT (G-Net's Inverse Pla-Plate Technique!), Super Detailing, Super Fine Finishing

G_net, being the “net” in ebasenet, comes from Selangor, Malaysia. The youngest and newest member of the trio, he only joined the modeling community in 2002. His first model was a 1/144 scale Zaku (FG) which he bought from Parkson’s Supermarket. Still a student at that time with no income, money was hard to come by for the hobby. He still remembers the excitement he had when he got his first MG model, which was the RX-78GP01.
In 2004, G_net took the competition arena by storm by bagging 2 prizes the first time he joined, with his MG DOM entry. It was also during this competition where he met with Erix93 and Whitebase. After this competition, G_net has tried to join as many competitions as possible, but missed a few along the way (because he is the second slowest builder in ebasenet!)So far, G_net has an unbroken track record, where he has finished top 3 for every competition he’s been in. In 2006, G_net won the Grand Prize in Malaysia with his Perfect Grade RX-78 entry, and represented the country to Hong Kong for the grand finals. He now joins Erix93 in the ‘Expert Category’ for the local competitions.
G_net’s interest is the most diversified among the trio, with a good mix of different genres. His latest works are either armour or airplane related, but because of his recent relocation and growing commitments from work, he has not found the time to photograph these works. He’ll get around to it… sooner or later…
