This is the work in progress log for the SD Dom
I did back in 2006 for FichtenFoo’s Forum’s SD competition. I thoroughly
enjoyed this build, because I was taking a break from the more
serious genre I normally do. I was also using this build as a test
bed to experiment on several things which I have not tried before.
First time doing cast iron effect
First time doing weathering
First time doing smoke trails
First time doing small base (soil and grass)
First SD!! _
Here’s how the kit looks like out of the box.
Standard SD… Fat, Cute and limited poseability. |

I cut away the stub on the leg so that I
can position them in a different angle.

|
|
I test fitted it with a spare 1/144 Dom Tropen’s open palm
|
 |
|
Next, I separated the arm from the shoulder to allow for a more natural
angle for the pose. I didn’t rebuild a PC joint here, as I was
going to make it fixed pose. It will be eventually glued back
on in a permanent position.

The original kit came with the visor molded in solid black. I wanted
to make a clear visor with some internal camera showing. To do
this, I first outlined the position of the visor by scratching
a line at the edge of the original black part. This will be my
guide for the positioning of the transparent visor.

Next up, I scratchbuilt a makeshift railing for the eye camera
using pla-plate. The camera piece is a kotobukiya part.
