This is the WIP for Bandai’s VF-25F from the Macross
frontier series. Amazingly engineered kit, with amazingly good
part fit. Looks great in all three modes, but it does suffer from
horrendous gaps in fighter mode. Fans of the Hasegawa line of Macross
kits will definitely curse and swear while assembling this kit,
but for a Gunpla snapper like me, it was pure bliss! Well, I am
pretty biased with this kit, coz I’m a sucker for all the gimmicks
Bandai packs into their kits, and I love the new Macross designs… |
| |
So here’s the kit, all snapped up. And yes for all you airplane
modelers out there, I know you’ll dread hearing it… it DOES come
with a snap fit canopy _ |
 |
This kit has quite a high level of surface detail… |
 |
I got really excited with this kit when I saw November’s issue
of Hobby Japan, with an extensive pictorial on the new line of
Macross kits. One particular rendition by Naoki Kimura looked amazing,
with additional rivet detailing cleverly placed in the surface…
|
 |
So I’ll try emulating this effect on my kit. (always try something
new for every kit right?) I experimented on a part which would
not be too prominent / visible, so in case I screw it up it won’t
be so noticeable. Here’s how it looks like out of the box..
|
 |
And after several minutes of drilling with my fine drill bit /
pin vice… |
 |
I did a test with my pencil on the rest of the kit to see how it
would look like. |
 |
As with my other kits, I like to stain the detailing with a little
ink to see how it would look like.

Here’s a test fit on the main body… |
