This is the work in progress log for the 1/144
scale VF19 (Fire Valkyrie) from Bandai. I got this kit long ago
and was working on it for a while before I got abandoned. The recent
releases of MSG parts from kotobukiya reminded me of this kit and
the work I was doing on it before it got abandoned.
I didn’t get very far with this kit the last time.
Only rescribed some panel lines |
I intended for this kit to be
in flight so the pre-molded landing gear areas were cut away.
I’ll cover it up using epoxy putty later.
The air intake areas were cut away and hollowed out.
Before kotobukiya released their recent MSG parts, I had no choice
but to scratchbuild air intake turbines. I did this long ago using
epoxy putty. |
Here’s how I intended to fit the turbines in the intakes |
Here’s how it looks like inside the jet. |
Now here’s the new MSG released by kotobukiya recently.
Here’s how the new part fits inside the body |
Will work on this slowly as a side project… |

Slight change in plans... looks like it won’t be a simple build
after all. I will be converting this into the Macross Plus Version
instead. Shown below are the line arts for the Macross 7 version
versus the Macross Plus version. Asides from the obvious differences
in colour scheme, there are some cosmetic changes which I will
have to address. |
I started working on the area above the main air intake. I marked
off the areas which needs to be cut off. |
The cut off area exposes a huge hole which will have to be filled
up with epoxy putty later. After cutting off the front area, I
tapered the front slightly to reshape it slightly.
The overall shape of the body was a bit more rounded than the macross
plus version. I rectified this by first separating the part slightly
using my micro saws.
The main body was then pressed down slightly to change the slope
angle |
I then plastered in underside of the body with some epoxy putty,
to force the body to conform to this new shape.
