MG 1/100 ZAKU
1 |
Here’s a WIP log for another OOB project. A pair of MG
Zaku 1s. Will be using this as a test bed to practice on
weathering, like what I did with the Zaku F2.
Here’s how the kit looks like… |
|
|
Did some minor detailing by scribing
some panel lines along where they should be. |
 |
| |
| Some more minor detailing, very similar like what I had
done previously for the Zaku F2. |
 |
| |
| This Zaku has a ‘gear’ mechanism to allow the mooneye
to be swiveled. This is controlled through a series of interconnected
gears, attached to a small lever at the bottom rear of the
head. Unfortunately, this lever protrudes out from the bottom,
so I made some small adjustments to remove the lever, and
replacing it with a notch which can easily be turned using
a flat screwdriver. (Learnt this from a very old issue of
Hobby Japan by the way) |

| This Zaku 1 was one of the first few MGs ever released,
and back then the designs were not very well planned out.
The internals are all locked in, and would basically require
you to build and paint the internals, then cover it up in
the outer shell, which requires more gluing, puttying and
sanding. I did some minor adjustments to the internal structures
of the helmet to allow the inner parts to be slotted in
and removed it needed. (The cylindrical holder for the ball
joint will later be superglued back onto the bottom of the
head) |
 |
| |
| Finally, I did some cats iron effects to some selected
parts of the model. Like before, this was done by applying
a thin layer of Tamiya putty onto the surface, and then
gently dabbing / stabbing the surface with a hard bristle
paint brush. Once dried, I gently smoothened out the surface
with some fine sandpaper. |

That's all, stay tune for the next
up-date! |
