Here’s another small update for the Zaku. Did
some cast iron effect on some of the parts. This is done by applying
a thin layer Tamiya Putty diluted in gunze thinner onto the part.
As the putty is drying, roughly dab on the surface with a hard
bristle paint brush to create the uneven surface. Once the entire
solution is fully cured, I gently sanded the surface down a bit
wit a piece of worn out 1200grade sand paper.
Did some more on the skirting area as well.
Next up, some small detailing bits to break the monotony on the
surface. Some holes were drilled on the surface. The edges of the
hole was enlarged slightly to using a cone shaped grinding tip which
came with my hand held router set.
The hole is then patched up from the inside surface using a scrap piece
of plaplate.
Some after market parts are then inserted into the hole.
The one used here are from ‘traffic alone’.
Similar holes are made on the chest piece.
Again, the reverse side is
patched up using plaplate.
Whenever I use epoxy putty on my other projects, and end up with
some spare mixtures, I always roll them up to small rods of various
sizes. These rods come in very handy for detailing purposes. Shown
here is one such rod, with one end of it super glued into the hole
on the chest piece.
Once the glue is properly cured, snip of the rest of the stick using
a cutter.
Sand down the leftover stump.
The basic body work is almost complete, next step will be to create
some battle damage on the body!
