Non Scale Gundam Head Display |
ZZ-GUNDAM
|
| We had such a great time working on the Banpresto Gundam
Desktop Heads the last round we decided to organize another
GroupBuild for 2011. My entry for this year will be the
ZZ Gundam. Here’s how it looks like straight from the box.

As with the other heads, it’s quite
accurate in proportion and design. My only complaint is
that it’s too accurate to the original Kunio Okhawara
drawings. The ZZ Gundam is a little weird for me because
for the most part, it’s a very square and blocky design.
However, the head is both a mixture of hard corners, as
well as very flowy curves which seems very mismatched
and out of place. Did a little search online and came
up with these illustrations which made the head look a
bit more square, and in my opinion, much nicer than the
original. |

| Set out to fix some of these problems, starting with the
red chin, which seems a bit too small. |
|
|
Test a new chin made out of some scrap
plaplate stuck in place using blutack |
|
|
Realized that its quite difficult
to visualize if the modified chin would look OK, since
it’s in the wrong color. And then, a stroke of inspiration!
Hahahahaha! |
|
|
Sculpted the new chin with my kid’s
play-doh. Also did the angular extensions on the sides
of the head as well. |
